Mission Statement

The full staff of St Joseph’s will serve the Crossgar community and its surrounding areas through the provision of a caring and effective Catholic Education which will enable children to maximise their potential for their whole development- Academic, Religious, Personal and Social.

Welcome to St. Joseph's

crest_200Welcome to St Joseph’s Primary School. I hope you find this website helpful in learning about St Joseph’s, its purpose and practice, its standards and expectations, the scope of its academic provision and the diversity of its extra-curricular activities.

Of course, no website can convey the real atmosphere of a school and it is only through a visit or spending time here in St Joseph’s that you will discover the wonderful ethos present. We want our pupils to be happy, settled and confident in their school surrounding. We therefore strive to ensure the environment is safe, secure and friendly, which enables children to develop to their full potential spiritually, intellectually, socially
and personally.

We value strongly the partnership that exists between St Joseph’s, the parents and the community here in Crossgar. This is fundamental in supporting each child’s development and we look forward to maintaining and improving these links with you as an existing, or, as a new parent.

Mr. B. Coulter
Principal

Basketball and Soccer

Basketball and Soccer Stars Shine

world20cup20soccerSt Josephs recently attended the annual Down Vikings basketball tornament held in St McCartans PS.  It was a really enjoyable tounament and a great reward for all the hard work the children did in the after school basketball club.  During the group matches St Joseph's won 3 drew 1 and lost 1 of their matches which qualified them in 3rd place for the semi finals.  Despite taking a 4-2 lead they lost a fantastic match to the eventual winners and hosts St MCartans.  Well done to all the boys but in particular to the player voted MVP in the tournament.

On Friday 25th June St Joseph's entered a World Cup Soccer Competition in Kilmore playing fields.  Despite fielding a very young side including boys and girls from P4, P5 and P6 they acquitted themselves extremely well after being allocated Spain as their country.  Playing against older teams they lost their opening two matches but recovered to win three and draw one of their next four.  This included a victory against St Brigids who had a 100% record up until then.   Hopefully this will be of great benefit to the young team for all their matches next year.  Well done to all the boys and girls!  Thank you also to Seamus Heath and his coaches for a great tournament and all their hard work this year organising the East Down League and Cup.  They have set super standards and St Joseph's appreciate all the work they do to promote soccer in the locality.

Handwriting Success

handwritingHANDWRITING STARS

Two children from St Joseph's PS have been successful in the annual INTO Handwriting Awards.  A boy in Primary 4 was awarded second place in his category in this district and a girl in Primary 5 also was awarded second place in her catergory in this district.  Both children and their families attended the prize giving in the Glenavon House Hotel in Cookstown on Thursday 17th June.  They received a certificate and prize from the INTO representitive.  This was a fantastic individual achievement for the children and for the school to have two winners in this prestigious event.  Congratulations to the children and their teachers.

Primary 7 Residential

Primary 7 Residential

On Monday 21st June St Joseph’s Primary 7 class went to Greenhill YMCA for their residential.  Excited children began the morning packing their suitcases into the bus (which looked like they were staying for a month not a night.)  They arrived at Greenhill to be met by Mischa who showed them to their apartments and outlined the programme for the two days.  Once dorms were assigned and children had made up their beds they had their lunch.
